'Boris Johnson has lost trust of the public and is now losing control of his party'

Boris Johnson now faces the ignominy of being investigated by MPs for repeatedly misleading Parliament.

The Prime Minister initially tried to block this inquiry and then, when that proved impossible, sought to kick the hearing into the long grass. Only when it became obvious he faced defeat in the Commons did he finally agree to the scrutiny.

For Mr Johnson to now he say he has “nothing to hide” is as preposterous as former US President Richard Nixon claiming he was “not a crook”.

It is hardly surprising more and more Tory MPs are calling for their leader to quit.

He has treated them as fools by demanding they defend his lawbreaking, excuse his lying, and thwart attempts to hold him to account.

Mr Johnson has already lost the trust of the public, now he is losing control of his party.

A PM without authority is unable to govern effectively. The longer he stays in office the more damage he does to his party, the Government and country he is supposed to serve.

Stop this evil

Before his murder Logan Mwangi suffered a life of unthinking cruelty.

He was savagely beaten and assaulted by those who should have cared for him.

Yet again the authorities failed to intervene despite concerns about his wellbeing.

This story is distressingly familiar. Logan joins Star Hobson, Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and dozens of other children who were killed by their parents or step parents.

In each instance the ultimate responsibility lies with those who committed these evil crimes. But we cannot allow yet another innocent life to be lost because the authorities are not able to protect them.

It’s safe Africa

The makers of I’m a Celebrity are to record the next show in South Africa rather than return to Wales.

They took one look at the British weather and decided to get out of here.
