Boris Johnson dances to Rangers anthem Sweet Caroline at wedding bash in cringe-inducing clip

Boris and Carrie Johnson danced to Sweet Caroline

CRINGEWORTHY footage of the Prime Minister dancing to Rangers anthem Sweet Caroline at his luxury wedding party has emerged.

The video, obtained by political blog Guido Fawkes, shows Boris Johnson dressed in a pale suit awkwardly flailing his limbs beside his current wife Carrie at their party – held a year on from their nuptials because of the pandemic – at the country estate of a major Tory donor.

The song was adopted by Rangers fans after an interview with then-manager Steven Gerrard went vital in March 2021, in which he said star striker Alfredo Morelos was “dancing around with no top on to Sweet Caroline” after a 1-0 win against Livingston.

It came before the song was joyfully adopted by the England team in that year’s Euros, which saw Gareth Southgate’s men pipped to the top spot by Italy in the final.

Boozed-up guests can be heard singing along to the 1969 Neil Diamond hit.

The video, taken in what appears to be a marquee, shows the Johnson family – with Carrie holding baby Wilfred – on a near-empty dancefloor grooving to the song.

It has raised questions over the conduct of the absent Prime Minister, who is currently holidaying in an undisclosed location while the country faces a recession expected later in the year, with pollster Ben Walker sharing the clip with the caption: “Crisis What Crisis?”

The Johnsons’ wedding took place at the Cotswolds mansion of JCB chairman Lord Bamford, after the Prime Minister bowed to public anger over his initial plans to hold the event at Chequers, following his resignation in disgrace over the Chris Pincher scandal.

Daylesford House, set in 1500-acre grounds, is owned by the wealthy Tory donor, who has gifted around £14 million in cash and gifts to the party since 2001.

It has been suggested that the Tory peer, who backed Johnson’s leadership bid in 2019, covered some of the costs of the party.

The couple married in a secret ceremony in Westminster Cathedral in front of a handful of guests in May 2021, and said they wanted to host a fuller party when restrictions were lifted.

Both were fined earlier this year, alongside then-chancellor Rishi Sunak, for breaking lockdown rules in 2020.

Serial philanderer Johnson has been married three times and divorced twice.

His latest separation coming as his ex-wife Marina Wheeler was being treated for cervical cancer.
