The BBC reports Johnson will step down this morning.
Sky News said a senior Government source told the broadcaster he “just needed a final push but it’s done”.
Johnson has also spoken to Tory 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady and agreed to stand down, with a new Tory leader set to be in place by the party conference in October, a No 10 source said.
A No 10 spokesman said: "The Prime Minister will make a statement to the country today."
It comes as his newly-appointed Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi told him to resign, after being in post for less than 48 hours.
And his new Education Secretary Michelle Donelan lasted less than two days in her post before resigning and telling him to quit.
In a dramatic twist on Wednesday, Johnson fired Michael Gove, with sources close to the Prime Minister briefing the media the former Communities Secretary was a "snake".
Attorney General Suella Braverman announced her intention to stand in a leadership election on live TV last night, telling ITV she would throw her "name into the ring".
