What do Marvel, Disney, classic rock stars and politics have in common? Their influence on cat names. Monday, August 8, is International Cats Day and to celebrate Yappy.com has revealed the most popular cat names in 2022.
New research reveals that Thor villain Loki is the second most popular cat name in the UK while Thor also made the top 50 list at number 23, perhaps thanks to the latest TV series and movie released this year. Continuing the Disney theme, classic Disney characters were also a popular choice with Simba, Nala, Winnie, Daisy, Coco and Minnie all making the list.
Other children's characters were also a go-to choice but this time, classic UK children's TV characters. Tweenies Milo and Bella make the list as well as legendary purple dinosaur Barney. Rock and roll isn’t just for humans as rock legends Ozzy, Ziggy and Marley all secure a spot in the top 20 male cat names in the UK.
British politics also has some influence on 2022’s most popular cat names as Boris makes the top 50 list, at number 43, whilst the well-known resident cat of 10 Downing Street, Larry lands the number 20 spot.
