Boris Becker has reunited with his 87-year-old mother Elvira after being released from prison this week.
Back in April, the six-time Grand Slam champion was sentenced to two and a half years in jail after being found guilty of four charges under the Insolvency Act. Following bankruptcy in 2017, the German star concealed ownership of a £1.3million home, a £692,000 loan he received from a Liechtenstein bank as well as his shares in an artificial intelligence firm.
But just eight months into his stint behind bars Becker, 55, was released to be deported back for Germany. It meant being reunited with Elvira, who was said to be heartbroken by her son's sentence, before Christmas.
And on Wednesday, in the company of girlfriend Lilian de Carvalho Monteir and son Noah, the pair reportedly embraced warmly when Becker returned to his home in Leimen. The former BBC pundit is now banned from entering the UK for 10 years.
A friend of Elvira told The Sun she had previously said of the news : "The best Christmas present I could hope for – I cannot wait to hold my beloved son in my arms.”
Her friend added: “Elvira is simply overjoyed he is coming home. For her, having Boris out of prison and back home is the best thing imaginable – and for it to happen in time for Christmas will be great for her. She was worried about when she might see him again, so this is all a huge deal for her - especially given her age.”
Following his release, Becker was paid £435,000 to give a tell-all interview to German TV in Munich. During the talks, he lifted the lid on having to share a space with murderers, and outlined the dangers he allegedly faced.
"I thought I would lose my life in Wandsworth, someone, a murderer I later found out, wanted my coat and he wanted money and he said he would kill me if he didn't get it," he claimed. "Then in Huntercombe another murderer said they wanted to kill me.
"He told me what he was going to do to me unless I let him do my laundry, this was only very recently, in October and when he told me my food tray was shaking. But in the end the next day he fell to his knees in front of me, apologised and kissed my hand and said he respected me."
