Boreham Wood 'humble and grateful' after classy Everton gesture ahead of FA Cup tie

Everton have been thanked for their classy gesture of paying for Boreham Wood to wear a commemorative kit when the sides meet in the FA Cup on March 3.

Frank Lampard's side will host their National League opponents next month, in what promises to be an interesting affair under the lights at Goodison Park.

Boreham Wood are the lowest-ranked side remaining in the competition and are the only non-league outfit to still be standing.

With preparations underway for their clash with the Blues, a problem was recently encountered regarding a kit clash.

It was decided that both the home and away kit of the Wood could clash with Everton's colours, forcing a commemorative black kit to be designed for this cup contest.

The Toffees have offered to pay the full costs for this unexpected arrangement, which has been greatly appreciated by the fifth-tier side.

Commenting on this 'classy gesture', a Boreham Wood statement read: "Boreham Wood FC wish to thank our 5th Round opponents Everton FC for contacting our little Football Club this week, offering to buy the team our commemorative playing kit for our very special Emirates FA Cup last 16 game at Goodison Park on Thursday 3rd March.

"When ours and Everton’s Kit Managers realised that our all white kit would clash with the Toffee’s white shorts and socks, and when we thought our all sky blue away kit might be too close of a colour match with their famous royal blue shirts, it was agreed by both clubs that we would purchase a special edition all-black third kit to wear on the evening.

"Without any prompting from ourselves, Everton FC’s Secretary approached our Club Secretary Dell Ward this week to tell him that they have decided to pay for the cost of our new kit themselves.

"We are so very humble and grateful that a sporting institution as big as Everton Football Club still recognises the issues and costs that the smaller clubs like ourselves experience, who try our very best to compete as high up the English football pyramid as we possibly can despite challenges.

"Thank you so much Everton Football Club for what is simply a very classy gesture, you really are the People’s Club. Thank you again."

The EFL promotion-chasers have sold out their allocation of 1,780 tickets for next month's FA Cup clash at Goodison Park.
