Recent reports from the border have shed light on a concerning incident involving the elite border patrol unit known as Bortac in the San Diego sector near Chula Vista, California. The unit was forced to take action when criminal migrants, referred to as bandits by the border patrol, were observed robbing migrants crossing in large groups from Mexico and then retreating back across the border.
In response to this bandit activity aimed at robbing migrants, the border patrol intervened to protect those seeking to surrender themselves for processing. An altercation ensued during the intervention, resulting in the fatal shooting of one of the bandits, while the others managed to escape back to Mexico.
Meanwhile, the overall number of apprehensions along the Southwest border has exceeded 7,000 for the second consecutive day, despite a slight decrease in encounters. With the arrival of spring, these numbers are expected to rise, as evidenced by the recent sighting of two separate groups of 50 to 60 migrants in Eagle Pass, originating from Central America and Venezuela.
Although certain areas like Eagle Pass and Brownsville have seen a decline in migrant arrivals, the continued influx of groups highlights the ongoing challenges faced at the border. The situation remains dynamic, with authorities closely monitoring and responding to incidents to ensure the safety and security of both migrants and border patrol agents.
