Border Czar Calls Recent Migrant Arrests A Game Changer

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director Thomas Homan speaks during an interview in East Point, Ga., April 26, 2018. President-elect Donald Trump says that Tom Homan, his former

Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, has labeled the recent migrant arrests at the US southern border as 'a game changer.' In an interview with Fox News, Homan emphasized the administration's commitment to cracking down on illegal immigration.

Homan highlighted that resistance to detentions and deportations in sanctuary cities would lead to increased presence of agents, more arrests, and collateral arrests. He stated, 'Sanctuary cities are going to get exactly what they don’t want. More agents in the communities, more people arrested... Game on.'

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is focusing on apprehending individuals deemed as 'the worst first,' with a priority on public safety and national security threats. Homan reported a total of approximately 766 arrests along the US-Mexico border in the past two days, including about 308 serious criminals detained within the last 24 hours. He mentioned that among those arrested were individuals with serious criminal backgrounds, such as murderers and rapists.

President Trump's campaign promise of mass deportation necessitates a significant mobilization of resources. Recent developments include the deployment of thousands of additional active-duty US troops to the southern border, following Trump's directive to bolster military presence in the region.

Homan has previously indicated that individuals residing in the country illegally could be subject to arrest in sanctuary city operations. The administration's actions have sparked tensions between local and federal authorities, particularly in Democratic-led cities like those in Colorado, Illinois, and California, which have implemented sanctuary city policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
