Border crisis worsens as illegal crossings surge, alarming lawmakers

U.S. President Biden speaks by phone with Russia's President Putin from Camp David in Maryland

The ongoing immigration crisis at the southern border has become a growing concern for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. President Biden's response to the issue has been met with criticism from Republicans, who argue that he has failed to take sufficient action to mitigate the crisis. New York Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Northern Border Caucus, recently weighed in on the matter.

According to Tenney, President Biden's recent statements about addressing the border issue through new legislation are not enough. She pointed out that his approval rating on the border stands at a mere 18%, indicating a significant lack of confidence in his ability to handle the situation effectively. Tenney suggests that a simple reversal of some of the executive orders issued on Biden's first day in office, along with collaboration with Secretary Mayorkas, could go a long way in resolving the crisis.

Moreover, Tenney argues that Biden himself has contributed to the border catastrophe by undoing many of the policies implemented during the Trump administration. She emphasizes that it is crucial for Biden to act swiftly and decisively to prevent further illegal immigration into the country, which she characterizes as an invasion.

Tenney also shared her concerns about the impact of the crisis on the northern border of upstate New York. Border agents and police in the area have reportedly been stretched thin due to their reassignment to the southern border. This situation has left the northern border vulnerable to illegal crossings, exacerbating security concerns.

In response to former President Trump's disparagement of an upcoming border protection bill, Tenney aligns herself with his viewpoint. She agrees with Trump's assessment that any bill deemed unfavorable would be better off rejected altogether. The congresswoman argues for stricter actions, including the construction of a border wall and the use of removal authority to stem the flow of illegal immigrants.

Tenney asserts that it is Biden's constitutional duty to protect the border and provide for national defense. She accuses him of failing in this obligation, leading to calls for impeachment or at least an inquiry into his handling of the situation. Furthermore, she highlights the concerns raised by Governor Kathy Hochul, who admitted the inability to vet incoming individuals, a situation that poses a potential security risk.

In conclusion, Tenney calls for unity among Republicans in addressing the border crisis, stating that it is a top concern for the American people. She urges Biden to set politics aside and take immediate action to secure the border, arguing that the consequences of his inaction are not only detrimental to national security but also burdensome for taxpayers. The congresswoman's remarks highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive and effective response to the growing immigration challenges at the nation's borders.
