About 14,000 undocumented immigrants have been arrested since Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to Tom Homan, the president’s border czar. Homan shared this information during an interview on 77 WABC radio, highlighting a significant enforcement effort in the past few years. He also mentioned that border crossings have decreased by 92% during the same period, indicating a substantial decline in unauthorized entries.
Homan expressed confidence in the current border security measures, stating, 'We got the border locked down pretty good. So we got some more work to do.' Despite the progress made, he emphasized that there is still more to be done to ensure the safety and integrity of the borders.
It was noted that a large portion of the arrested individuals had criminal histories, although specific details were not provided. Homan mentioned that there are over 600,000 undocumented immigrants in the US with criminal backgrounds, underscoring the importance of addressing public safety concerns.

Furthermore, Homan revealed his upcoming meeting with New York City Mayor Eric Adams to discuss cooperation between local law enforcement and immigration authorities. This meeting is significant, especially considering New York City's status as a sanctuary city with policies that limit involvement in federal immigration enforcement actions.
The Department of Justice recently instructed prosecutors to drop federal corruption charges against Adams, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing discussions between federal and local authorities. Homan expressed hope for a collaborative agreement that would enhance efforts to remove public safety threats from the community.
As the meeting approaches, there is anticipation regarding the outcome and potential implications for immigration enforcement in New York City. Requests for details from New York City Hall regarding the meeting have been made, highlighting the importance of transparency and communication in addressing immigration-related issues.
