Boots shoppers have expressed their anger after spotting a rise in the cost of the retailer's meal deal - branding the increase as 'unexpected'. For years, the Nottinghamshire based company has been praised for its £3.49 value deal on items such as salads, sandwiches, drinks and other snacks.
However, Boots has now been in the firing line of a number of unhappy customers after they saw how much its meal deal bundle now costs. The hike is the second time the chain has risen the price of its meal deal.
The retailer has now bumped up the price from £4.19 to £4.99 in London, and from £3.59 to £3.99 elsewhere, Manchester Evening News reports. The price of Boots' meal deal went up a the start of this month and it is the second time the retailer has increased its lunch combo this year, having last upped the cost in March.

The meal deal - which includes a main, snack and drink - cost £3.39 at the start of this year, or £3.99 in London. The rise means some shoppers are forking out 60p more in the majority of stores, or £1 more if they're in the capital city, compared to at the start of 2022. Though people who are part of the Boots Advantage Card loyalty scheme will get a discount.
Many unimpressed customers have turned to social media to vent, with one even admitting to 'feeling sick' from the almost £5 price tag. @Izzy_stuart tweeted: "Boots [sic] meal deal is now £4.99. I feel sick."
@Climatesub said: "Btw did we all notice that the price of a Boots meal deal went up to £3.99? That's it for me I'm afraid. Fully in my packed lunch era."
@Mogarbiya typed: "Boots putting their meal deal to £4 has proper p***** me off."
A spokesperson for Boots said shoppers can still save up to £4.39 outside of London and £3.30 inside the city. They added: "The price increase reflects rising costs including ingredients, production and supply chain costs. The Boots Meal Deal remains one of the best value deals on the market."
