Boots customers can earn Advantage Card points for recycling their old and empty make-up products. Many make-up products, such as mascara and lipstick tubes, make-up palettes and compacts, can’t be recycled in your household recycling bin.
The Recycling at Boots scheme, which is in partnership with No 7 and Scan 2 Recycle, makes sure that your hard-to-dispose of products can be recycled safely. It means that when you run out of mascara, you can safely get rid of the old packaging and earn extra points when buying your next one.
The offer is only valid in participating stores and on specific products. Thankfully, the Boots in Eldon Square is included in the offer, so get recycling.

What is the Recycle at Boots scheme?
The Recycle at Boots scheme is designed to help Boots customers do their bit to help the planet by safely disposing of and recycling beauty, health, wellness and dental products that can’t be recycled at home.
Traditionally, due to size and material, many cosmetic products can’t go in your household recycling bin or be disposed of at your local council recycling centre. However, Boots has the facilities to sort these hard-to-recycle products and turn them into something good.
What products can I recycle?
The scheme is aimed at hard-to-recycle beauty, healthcare and wellness products. Usually, these items are too small, made of composite materials or made from non-recyclable materials.
Many make up items, such as mascara tubes, lipstick containers, make-up palettes and compacts, can’t go in your everyday recycling bin. To check whether they’d be accepted at Boots, you can create an account on the Scan2Recycle website.
What will I get for recycling at Boots?
To qualify for the reward, visit the Recycle at Boots Scan2Recycle website and create an account or download the app. You’ll be asked to take photos of the products that you wish to recycle.
Once validated you can take the empty products into a store and pop them in the recycling bin. Scan the QR code on the bin and your account will be credited with a voucher.
The voucher is for an extra 600 Advantage Card points when you spend £10 or more. The app will also keep track of everything you recycle with the scheme so you can see the positive impact you’re making on the planet.
What happens to my empties?
Once you’ve dropped off your empties, they’ll be taken to a specialist recycling centre where they’ll be cleaned up, sorted and recycled. Any remaining multi-material items will be recycled into stormboard, a composite construction board material, similar to plywood, which has a lot of different uses.
Organics will be processed through an industrial organics processor. Nothing goes to landfill and nothing is incinerated.
