Boots issues two-month warning for anybody who uses an Advantage Card with every store set to change popular feature

High street beauty giant Boots has issued a warning to anybody with an Advantage Card. From May, a popular feature is being changed for all shoppers in all stores.

As of May 23, shoppers will no longer be able to get 4p-worth of points when they spend £1. Instead, this will be replaced with a new system.

In an email sent out to Advantage Card holders, Boots said: "We're making changes to the Advantage Card terms. From May 2023, Advantage Card holders will now get 10% off Boots own-brand products, and collect 3p for every £1 you spend. You'll get to keep the number of points you've already collected, and they'll still be worth the same amount."

Advantage Card holders were originally able to claim 4p-worth of points for every £1 spent in Boots stores and online. But under the new system, customers will only get 3p-worth of points when they spend £1.

To offset the change, Boots says it is now offering a new incentive, which will give all Advantage Card holders 10 per cent off own-brand products Boots has also said it will be offering customers more double and triple points events throughout the year, as well as other offers and chances to save money.

There are 6,000 products to choose from in the Boots range including health, beauty, essentials, baby, and sun care. It comes as over 70 percent of Boots Advantage Card members regularly shop from Boots Own Brand ranges, with one in five items in their basket typically made up of Boots’ own brand products.

Since its launch in September 2022, Boots Everyday has become a favourite with customers with sales up by 35 percent in quarter one of 2023. Boots has also revealed there will be more lower prices and instant savings on big-name brands with Price Advantage discounts - over 1,000 products each month.

Customers can still collect and save up points; Boots is updating its points offering so that for every £1 spent, customers will receive three Advantage Card points (worth 3p), rather than four, says the Express. People of a certain age and those who are parents will also be able to collect more points than others - a move which may prove controversial with shoppers.

Over 60s will get eight points for every £1 spent on Boots' own brand products while Boots Parenting Club members will receive eight points for every £1 spent on baby products.

Students will get an added 10% discount. Boots Opticians customers on a Contact Lens Rewards Plan will get an extra 10% off Boots own brand products.

Boots chief marketing officer, Pete Markey said: “Boots Advantage Card is one of the original and most generous loyalty programmes, and now we are making it better to fit our customers’ changing needs and the way they now want to shop.

“Customers want to be rewarded with on-the-spot lower prices and instant value. We’ve also noticed that Advantage Card members are now more frequently using their points to buy essentials instead of saving them up.

“We’ve listened and expanded the scheme to give more instant reward, immediate value and lower prices.”
