As England dispatched Norway in a record-breaking performance at Euro 2022, eagled eyed fans would have noticed more than a touch of Bootle in England’s performance.
The statement 8-0 victory from one of the tournament’s favourites came courtesy of a Beth Mead hat trick, an Ellen White double, and goals from Georgia Stanway, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo.
During the second half, Bootle-born Alex Greenwood replaced Rachel Daly for her first appearance of the tournament. After debuting in 2014, the 28-year-old has won 62 caps for England and represented the Lionesses at the 2015 and 2019 World Cups and the 2017 Euros, where England reached three successive semi-finals.

Having progressed through the ranks at Everton after joining the club aged eight, the defender has gone on to represent Notts County, Liverpool, Manchester United, Lyon and currently plays for Manchester City.
Greenwood is one of Liverpool's finest-ever female footballers and even has a mural of her on Constance Street in the city.
Despite representing her country all over the world, Greenwood has not forgotten her roots. On her football boots she is wearing for the Euros, the local hero has the coordinates of her hometown Bootle on them. On the side of her Under Armour boots, which also have an England flag on her heel, the coordinates: 53.4433°N 2.9989°W are printed in red, in order to remind Greenwood of her home.
As Sarina Wiegman’s side pursue their quest for glory, Greenwood will continue to do all those in Liverpool, and especially Bootle proud, and she will have the support of her hometown both on and off the field throughout the tournament.
