Boost for Glasgow Clan as coach Malcolm Cameron commits for next season

Clan head coach Malcolm Cameron has committed his future to the Braehead Arena outfit after penning a new deal for next season.

The 52-year-old Canadian has signed on the dotted line and is now preparing to continue his work after the team returned from an enforced Covid-19 absence.

Cameron insists this season has just been the beginning for him and revealed the support shown from the fans played a big role in staying with the club.

“I knew when I came here this season it would be a challenging one,” he said.

“But I’m definitely excited at being able to start in our own building and having a full off-season to prepare.

“It’s going to sound like a cliche - and I mean this honestly - but I’ve loved the strong support the fans have given me.

“At home is one thing, but on the road they make themselves so loud and passionate and that’s been a really cool experience.

“Continuity is important as a coach and it’s definitely nice to come back to a place where I get great support, from the organisation and staff.

“From a personal standpoint, Glasgow has become very comfortable for me and I’m happy to be returning for next season.”

Clan have yet to qualify for the play-offs as things stand, but some good results over the next few weeks can change all that.

Meanwhile Clan managing director Gareth Chalmers has thanked the club’s loyal fans - and insists the next few years for them are going to be a blast.

After a turbulent time in which the Clan’s future home was in doubt after the coronavirus pandemic hit, Chalmers now believes the future is bright for the Renfrewshire club having fully stabilised back into life in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Chalmers said: “Last summer we carried out an extensive search for a new head coach and head of hockey operations who could match our ambitions and vision for the club, so I am delighted Malcolm is returning.

“After securing the future of our home at Braehead Arena, it’s now imperative for the club that we have continuity in place to allow us to further progress over the coming seasons.

“I want to thank the Purple Army and everyone associated with the club for all their fantastic support.”
