Boomer Esiason warns Giants to steer clear of DeAndre Hopkins

When the Arizona Cardinals released wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in May, many felt the New York Giants would be an ideal landing spot for the former Pro Bowler.

The Giants were also connected to Hopkins via trade rumors earlier this offseason when Arizona was reportedly shopping their star receiver. Head coach Brian Daboll was asked about Hopkins following his release and said the Giants would do their due diligence.

However, not everyone is a fan of the Giants potentially signing Hopkins, including WFAN’s Boomer Esiason.

“I just don’t see it for either one of these two teams here in New York,” Esiason said on WFAN.

“His reputation, it’s not great, Everybody knows that he’s a great athlete and a great player, but the work ethic and the commitment to practice and all that other stuff is really where the big question marks reside.”

The Giants did add several weapons around Daniel Jones this offseason, most notably tight end Darren Waller. But they are still lacking a true No. 1 receiver, and adding a talent like Hopkins fills a void on the roster — even this late in his career.

But if Hopkins truly lacks the commitment and work ethic Esiason claims he does, that is not something that would be tolerated by the current Giants regime. Culture is important to general manager Joe Schoen and Daboll, and that will always come first.

Ultimately, Hopkins’ upcoming deal will likely price the Giants out anyway. They have obvious salary cap restraints and won’t engage in a bidding war.
