A bookmaker has slashed odds on this month ending as the wettest May on record. The King's Coronation day on Saturday is forecast to be another cloudy, wet day for many with more rain on Sunday and Monday.
And the rainy conditions are set to continue over the next seven days. Coral's on this month ending as the wettest ever May are now 5-4, from 5-2. The firm makes it 6-4 for this weekend to be a record-wet May bank holiday weekend.
Coral's John Hill said: "With the forecasts all pointing to a washout over the next seven days or so, we have slashed the odds on this month ending as a record-wet May. Hopefully, the weather does not spoil the Coronation celebrations this weekend, but with reports of rain across the next few days, the odds suggest it could be one of the wettest May bank holiday weekends on record."
The Met Office says data from its archive shows that past coronations have been mixed when it comes to the weather. The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II saw temperature highs of just 11.8°C on June 2, 1953 with some light rain through the day.
The Coronation of HM King George V was the mildest of the last four coronations, with daytime highs of 17°C on 22 June 1911.
