There's nothing we all love more than taking the bookies to the cleaners, and there was a fair amount of cleaning that went on today at Punchestown.
A big concern for the bookies is a heavily backed favourite romping home to victory. This is exactly what happened when Sandor Clegane won the 4:15 hurdle and when Gaelic Warrior triumphed in the Irish Mirror Novice Hurdle.
There was some light relief when Galopin Des Champs missed out on the Gold Ciup but a late victory for A DreamTo Share in the final Grade 1 meant more pain for the money men.

Spokesperson for Paddy Power, Rachel Kane, said, “The sun shined on both Punchestown and the punters today as they raced in front of the bookies on the back of a score draw on day one. Favourites Sandor Glegane and Gaelic Warrior landed early blows only for Fastorslow to offer us some reprieve in the Gold Cup by edging the relentlessly backed Galopin Des Champs. However, A Dream To Share romping home in the final Grade 1 of the day led to a nightmare finish for the bookies to leave us picking up the bill for the evening’s entertainment.”
