Bookies give verdict on Eddie Howe's 2022-23 Premier League prospects at Newcastle United

Bookmakers expect Eddie Howe to survive the 2022-23 Premier League campaign while anticipating a strong season overall for Newcastle United. The former Bournemouth boss was nominated for Manager of the Season after steering the Magpies comfortably clear of relegation.

Ahead of the new campaign, Betfair have priced the Toon boss as an outside chance to be the first manager sacked at 33/1. The only managers with longer odds are Steven Gerrard (40/1), Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola (both 66/1).

Frank Lampard has the unwanted honour of being the bookies’ favourite to get the sack first. A rocky start to life at Goodison Park saw Everton survive relegation by the skin of their teeth last season. The Chelsea legend is 7/2, with Ralph Hasenhuttl (9/2) and Jesse Marsch (6/1) closely behind.

Most betting companies have Newcastle as the seventh most likely team to win the Premier League this season. Finishing seventh would secure a Europa Conference League place for 2022-23 and supporters could dream about continental escapades once again.

Betfair have the Magpies at a price-boosted 126/1 to win the league. Bet365 (80/1) and SkyBet (66/1) also back Howe’s men to finish in the top seven. Unsurprisingly, Manchester City are the odds-on favourites to clinch their fifth title in six years under Pep Guardiola.
