Boohoo hit with complaints for dressing plus-size model in bikini that 'doesn't fit'

Online fashion giant Boohoo has found itself in hot water with shoppers for dressing a plus size model in a bikini which, some people says 'doesn't fit her'. The fashion retailer shared a picture of a gorgeous model wearing one of its bikinis on social media.

The image captured the hearts and eyes of hundreds of shoppers, who praised how amazing the model looks. People were also over the moon to see somebody who doesn't fit the 'slim-thick' stereotype modelling swimwear for a change.

But while the image was incredibly empowering, some shoppers found themselves distracted by the sizing of the bikini, and complained to Boohoo that it's 'too small'. Sarah Morgan said: "Great to see plus size models modeling bikinis but this beautiful woman would look so much better if it fitted."

Sam Saunders slammed: "Im sorry but this is the most unflattering thing I've seen. I'm bigger and I find it insulting that they churn this out with no support saggy t**s saggy hanging out belly is not how anyone wants to look!"

Louise Ward said: "I’m all for body positivity and whatever body etc. But that does clearly not fit her. I dont care what anyone says."

Pauliee Mikeyirwin Panda said: "I’m really happy that companies are now having plus sized people and being plus sized myself even I can tell that doesn’t fit her at all." Sara Alyssiah-Rose Jones added: "Well done Boohoo for using ladies either curves! But surely I'm not the only one that thinks this doesn't actually fit?"

Chloe Ann defended the image, saying: "Just because you wouldn’t wear something doesn’t mean someone else can’t. We should all be wearing what makes us happy, empowered, confident and what we feel comfortable in. Your feelings are irrelevant to another’s happiness." Debbi Humphrey wrote: "No matter what size we are, from size 6 - onwards, no matter how short or tall we are (I'm 4ft 5" my daughter is 5ft 9") 'ALL' of us should embrace & be proud of ourselves. And wear what we wish & most importantly, enjoy wearing it!"

Charlotte Christie said: "Wear what the heck you want, sod what everyone else thinks!" Laura Fairley commented: "I love that my daughter is growing up to see that everyone is different, all sizes and shapes differ and anyone can look and be, act, dress who and how they want to be. All I ever saw was catwalk models and it's so dangerous."

Jess Rudd said: "I wouldn’t wear a bikini after having 3 children! Well done to this woman for having the confidence to show her body!" Elle Loren wrote: "You can really tell the judgemental people from those who actually want to promote inclusivity! Hats off to the model they look fab!! Wish I had the confidence to wear that!"

Claire Carpenter Smart said: "I’m 51 had 3 children overweight, menopausal, off to Tenerife in 2 weeks , bikinis packed , lovely little dresses packed and i couldn’t give a monkeys what anyone thinks , i’ve spent years and thousands trying to be the way i think society is happy with and only now in my 50s i’m happy with my lot. Cliche but life is so short and i don’t want to be on my death bed regretting the years i spent giving a **** !"

Ellie Wescott said: "If this model feels comfortable (sure she does, are we really saying she can't say I'm not comfortable in this outfit?!) then what's the issue. News flash: Bigger bodies don't always look ''well supported" in the way that traditionally you might think or see. Our bodies often look like they're spilling out the edges or hanging in what would usually be called "unflattering" but that's just the difference people now are blessed to see."

Chloe Du-Tracy wrote: "Not being funny, but most of yous wouldn’t be saying half this stuff “ew doesn’t fit her” blah blah blah, if it was a thin model with an under boob bikini going on that’s just covering her nipples! Sure yous would be the first to say “oh look how beautiful, I’d die for that body” absolutely ridiculous."

Manchester Evening News approached Boohoo for comment.
