Bonnyton Thistle boss heaps praise on club for setting up special Scottish Cup bow

Ross Wilson has heaped praise on the Bonnyton Thistle committee for securing a special day for the club.

The Kilmarnock side will compete in the Scottish Cup for the first time ever this weekend as they head to Clydebank.

Ton gaffer Wilson knows it’ll be tough but says there’s no pressure on his side against the impressive Bankies.

He told the Kilmarnock Standard: “It’s an exciting occasion for the club. You’ve got to take your hat off to Ian Higgins, Neil Wilson and other guys behind the scenes like Arthur Higgins, and many more.

“For the club to have come from being essentially a boys’ club to competing in a competition that’s known throughout the world is a massive pat on the back for those people who got the club in this position.

“We will go to Clydebank and have a good crack at it – then we will see where it takes us.”

Wilson admits this weekend would be the perfect time to halt Bonnyton’s disappointing start to the season.

Three league games against Johnstone Burgh, St Roch’s and Blantyre Vics have ended in defeat.

Things looked better on Saturday as they battled hard with West of Scotland Premier Division side Glenafton in the South Challenge Cup, with Glens leaving the Synergy Arena with a narrow 1-0 win.

Wilson said: “The fixture list hasn’t been too kind to us, we’ve had a lot of good teams to play.

“We don’t fear anyone, but at the same time these teams are probably bit more developed than us financially.

“But look, the game is played on the pitch, it’s not played on a spreadsheet, we just need to prepare ourselves.”
