Bonnie Tyler has broken her silence after being accused of miming during an appearance on This Morning.
The singing legend joined presenters Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle at the end of Wednesday's show to discuss her new memoir.
Following an interview about her career, which has spanned five decades, the queen of the power ballad took to the stage to belt out her iconic hit Total Eclipse of the Heart.
But fans weren’t impressed when the 71-year-old appeared to mime the track and took to Twitter to vent their disappointment.
One viewer fumed: “And here’s Bonnie Tyler singing live!! Errm no she f***ing isn’t!!!”
Another wrote: “I don’t think Bonnie Tyler was convincing anyone there with her very embarrassing miming. That was painful to watch”.
A third chimed in: “Wow what a let down with lip sync Bonnie Tyler”, while a fourth said: “Bonnie Tyler can sing, unfortunately she can’t mime.”
After the backlash following her performance on the ITV show, Bonnie’s representatives issued a statement apologising to fans and said she was "totally distraught" she couldn't sing live.
They explained the singer was suffering from a “sore throat” which hampered her voice, leaving her no option but to lip sync.
Since she appeared on the show, her voice is said to have got even worse to the point where she can “hardly speak at all”.
“Bonnie is incredibly disappointed that she had to lip sync on ITV’s This Morning,” her reps told The Mirror.
"However, she woke up with a terribly bad sore throat, which was obvious from her speaking voice during the interview, and at rehearsals it was clear she couldn’t sing today.
"So rather than let TV and her fans down at the last moment she decided to mime instead. In fact, I have just spoken to her on the phone and it’s got a lot worse, she can hardly speak at all now."
The spokesperson added: "Everyone should be assured that Bonnie’s voice is still very strong when she doesn’t have a cold, as anyone coming to any of her live shows this year will be able to hear for themselves.
"She is very sorry if anyone felt let down by her having to mime, she actually hates miming and never usually does it, and is looking forward to her voice being back to its normal strength very soon.”
Bonnie’s performance of Total Eclipse of the Heart, released in 1983, marks the 40th anniversary of the hit song.
It went on to top the UK charts, earned the Welsh singer a Grammy nomination and is often cited as one of the top songs from the Eighties.
She has previously said she still loves singing her biggest hit and never gets bored of performing it.
As she received an MBE for services to music in February this year, she revealed: “Lots of people ask me ‘Aren’t you fed up of singing it?’ but there is no way. I love it, everybody does. It’s a karaoke classic!”
Other big hits Bonnie is known for include Holding Out For A Hero, Save Up All Your Tears and Two Out of Three Ain't Bad.
