With Bonfire Night just days away, many will be getting ready to go and watch some of the spectacular displays taking place this weekend. November 5 - Guy Fawkes Night - traditionally sees people wrap up warm to watch some incredible fireworks while snacking on bonfire toffee and other treats.
There are some amazing displays planned across Wales, both on the day itself and over the coming weekend, so if you're planning to celebrate there will undoubtedly be one close to you. Many will also be crossing their fingers for the rain to hold off after heavy downpours and high winds hit parts of Wales this week, including a thunder alert on Thursday.
While the weather is looking a bit mixed this weekend, there are clear spells scattered throughout which means you should be able to watch some of the displays without getting drenched. Cardiff
The capital will have some great displays over the weekend including Sophiaworks at the cricket grounds on Friday night. Thankfully, if you're in and around the Welsh capital at the weekend you shouldn't be too impacted by the weather - Friday, November 4 will be clear during the day changing to partly cloudy by the evening, with less than 5% chance of rain and wind gusts in the low teens, so you should see the fireworks without issue.
Saturday, November 5 will be slightly wetter with some patches of rain between 12pm and 3pm, but it will clear up by early evening with little rain forecast from 6pm onwards, when most displays will be happening. Sunday, November 6 looks a bit more unsettled, with patches of rain throughout the day including between 12pm and 3pm, with some also forecast at 9pm. There will also be some cloud on the night and visibility will be slightly reduced.
If you're heading to Penarth Athletic Bonfire Display on Saturday you can expect similar with the forecast showing light rain until about 3pm before it clears up into the evening.
Swansea
This year's free November 5 fireworks display from Swansea Council has already fallen victim to weather forecasts, with Swansea Council cancelling the event and saying it can not be rearranged. If you're planning on heading to another display on November 5, be warned that there will be heavy rain earlier in the day before things get clearer with little rain or cloud forecast after 6pm. If you're watching any on Friday, you'll be happy to hear it's expected to be a bright, clear day with little rain or wind forecast so you should have a great view. Sunday will see the worst of the Swansea weather, with heavy showers throughout the day including into the evening and reduced visibility.
Carmarthen
The Carmarthen Round Table is back with its annual Guy Fawkes celebration on Saturday, November 5 - and if you're going you're in luck, as heavy rain during the morning will ease off later on in the day when the event starts, with between 5-10% chance of rain predicted throughout the evening. Friday is even better, with some cloud burning away and sunny weather throughout the day so you'll be able to wrap up warm without worrying about getting soaked. If you're going to any displays in the area on Sunday though, you might want to bring an umbrella, as heavy showers are forecast through the day and visibility reduced in the evening.
Llanelli
Llanelli's main event will be its funfair, food and live entertainment display at the Scarlets ground on Sunday, November 6. You might want to bring your anorak though as heavy showers are forecast throughout the day and night, with the chance of rain between 40-60% and less visibility than normal. Friday and Saturday look slightly better, with the former being mostly sunny and clear after some early showers, while Saturday is a mixed bag with rain between lunchtime and 3pm but clearer conditions afterwards.
Blaenau Gwent
In Blaenau Gwent the fireworks and fun will return to Eugene Cross Park for 2022 on Sunday, November 6. And it might be another wet one if you're heading there, with a 40-60% chance of light rain forecast throughout the day and poor visibility. There is heavy rain also in the forecast for Saturday, though it will be early in the day before clearing up by around 6pm. Friday looks to be the best day to catch a display, with sun and clear conditions, good visibility and little in the way of rain.
