An unidentified bone has been found in a Brisbane creek by police looking for signs of Taiwanese-Australian man Joshua Mou, who has been missing for almost 11 months.

The 22-year-old hasn't been seen since he left his home in the southern suburb of Sunnybank Hills and detectives believe he caught a bus to Carindale, in the city's east.

Detectives are testing the bone to see if it is human after it was found by police divers in Bulimba Creek at Carina, near Carindale, on Wednesday afternoon.

"Forensic examinations are under way to determine if the bone is human," police said on Thursday.

"A search of the area is continuing today."

Mr Mou's family said his disappearance on January 11 was out of character, but police haven't said whether the circumstances were suspicious.

Investigators have narrowed their search for Mr Mou to the creek in the months after he disappeared and have extensively scoured the area.
