Bond actress Jane Seymour forced to flee California home after fire rips through Malibu

Actress Jane Seymour has said she was forced to flee her California home “just in time” as fast-moving wildfires ripped through Malibu.

The star of Live and Let Die and Somewhere in Time escaped with just the clothes she was wearing when flames came "right up to my house".

The 73-year-old Brit has been sleeping elsewhere since the fires on Monday and said her "whole house smells of smoke" - but is still standing.

"I just literally had jeans and a sweater, which I've been wearing for four days and sleeping at different people's houses,” she told the British American Business Council (BABC) annual Christmas luncheon.

"On Monday night, at 10.50pm, we got a call from my partner, John Zambetti's son Johnny, who was in Serra Retreat.

"[He] saw a glow behind the curtains, opened the windows, saw 10ft flames, and called us immediately and said, 'Get out. Get out'.

"We all got out just in time because of that."

Seymour was given the BABC LA icon award at the Los Angeles event.

She said that she felt lucky that “so few structures were burned”.

"The job the fire brigade did is beyond belief. If you are where I live, and you look up the hill... every house the fire came right up to one inch of the dwelling,” she added.

The wildfires have led other celebrities including Dick Van Dyke and Cher to flee the city as 700 firefighters battled the 4,000 acres of fire across the US state.

The fire's cause remains unknown and has been named Franklin by authorities.

LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said on Wednesday: "We are going to have a coordinated ground and air assault.

"Because of the difficulties in this particular area, time is of the essence for us to grab a hold of this fire."
