Bombers' tormentor has taken his game to another level

Adelaide forward Josh Rachele has received fresh plaudits as he seeks to reprise his role as tormentor of Essendon in Saturday's MCG clash.

Rachele last year kicked Adelaide's match-winning goal against the Bombers in the final minute of a tense two-point victory.

The gifted attacker was later dumped from Adelaide's team for their last game of the season for failing to uphold club standards.

Rachele responded to his controversial axing with a standout display in Adelaide's 62-point trouncing of St Kilda in their season-opener.

The 21-year-old kicked two goals and had a dozen score involvements against the Saints.

"Reward for putting his head down and going to work - not a surprise, actually," Crows coach Matthew Nicks said of Rachele.

"It was a really complete game right across the board.

"Everything he did with the ball in hand and stuff that's not going to be looked at unless of course some of the guys ... dig a little deeper and have a look; some of his off-ball stuff was outstanding."

Nicks said the precociously talented Rachele was now adding blue-collar traits of fellow small forwards Ben Keays and recruit Alex-Neal Bullen.

"He's learning from Alex Neal-Bullen and Ben Keays ... it's contagious when you get these guys in," Nicks said.

"I'll use Alex as an example, the respect level that he's got already from our group ... they watch and learn."

Nicks named an unchanged side for the trip to Melbourne to face the Bombers, who made two forced alterations to their side which lost to Hawthorn by 26 points last Friday night.

Experienced duo Kyle Langford (hamstring) and Jordan Ridley (concussion) were unavailable with coach Brad Scott summoning Jye Menzie and Tom Edwards.

Edwards, a 24-year-old Western Australian forward who was a pre-season supplemental signing in January, will make his AFL debut.

"Pulling on the Essendon jumper for the first time is beyond a dream come true," Edwards told the club's website.

"A month ago, I was teaching sport science and maths to the Lesmurdie High School kids in Perth.

"And now I get the chance to run out onto the MCG in front of the Essendon fans, it's just unbelievable."
