
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday asked the Maharashtra government to respond to stand-up comic Kunal Kamra’s plea seeking the quashing of the FIR against him for his remarks on Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, Bar and Bench reported.
This comes a day after the Madras High Court extended Kamra’s anticipatory bail till April 17 in the same case. Kamra had approached the court on March 28 with a plea seeking a transit anticipatory bail since he is a resident of Villupuram in Tamil Nadu. The high court granted the bail order after Kamra claimed that he was unable to approach courts in Maharashtra due to threats of physical violence.
The Bombay High Court will now hear the matter on April 16.
During his performance at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai, Kamra alluded to the 2022 rebellion within the undivided Shiv Sena through a parody song. Read all about the vandalism that followed here. A total of five FIRs have been filed over the incident so far – four against Kamra, another against Shiv Sena workers.
Meanwhile, in an open letter on Monday, Kamra requested the online ticketing platform BookMyShow to not delist him or to hand over the contact details of the audience members who attended his show. BookMyShow responded, stating that the nature of their role “has been misrepresented” and “it is the decision of the organiser or the venue to list or delist a show”.
