Bomb squad pictured at Scottish building site after 'wartime munition' discovered

THE bomb squad and police have been pictured at an ongoing incident in Renfrewshire after a suspected WWII bomb was uncovered​.

Officers swooped on Meadowside Street in Renfrew shortly after 12pm on Tuesday, March 11.

Police raced to the area following the discovery to safely secure the device.

After arriving at the scene, officers immediately erected a cordon in the area.

Images captured by the Glasgow Times show police officers and the bomb squad at the scene.

They also show police standing guard on the street.

An investigation into the discovery is underway.

Police Scotland posted on social media: "Officers are currently in attendance at a premises on Meadowside Street, Renfrew following the discovery of what appears to be wartime munition around 12.25pm today.

"A cordon has been put in place which is affecting the nearby cycle path. Enquiries are ongoing."
