Bomb disposal team called to Somerset school after 'suspicious package' found

A bomb disposal team was called to a school in Somerset this afternoon (April 26) after a 'suspicious package' was reported to have been found.

The team were reportedly called to Kings of Wessex Academy in Cheddar, Somerset Live reports and roads around the school were also said to have been closed.

A statement on the school's website confirmed that it had turned out to be a "false alarm".

The full statement read: "Dear parents and carers, further to our previous correspondence, the police – assisted by a bomb disposal team, have now investigated the situation informed us that the critical incident at the Kings of Wessex was a false alarm and the area is now all clear.

"Thank you for your support and co-operation in this matter. The school continues to operate as normal. "
