Bomb disposal squad rush to Santry apartment block after reports of 'suspcious device'

A bomb disposal squad has been called to an apartment block in Santry, North Dublin this evening.

The alarm was raised when gardai received reports of a "suspicious device" at Schoolhouse Lane. The bomb disposal squad and guards raced to the scene.

An area was quickly cornered off with residents shocked to see the large vehicles arrive outside their homes.

The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit is currently still at the scene.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí received reports of a suspicious device in the Whitehall area of Dublin 9 on the evening of Tuesday, 19th July, 2022.

"A cordon has been established and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit are currently at the scene.

"No further information is available at this time."

The "suspicious device" was later found to be non-viable by the unit. Enquiries are ongoing.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí received reports of a suspicious device in the Whitehall area of Dublin 9 on the evening of Tuesday, 19th July, 2022.

A cordon was established and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit attended the scene.

Upon further examination by the Army EOD Unit, the device was discovered to be non-viable and the cordon has since been lifted.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
