Although we’re technically in spring, it appears that the heat of summer is already upon Australia with the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) issuing heatwave warnings for the country’s northern states.
Folks who are living it up in Queensland, Western Australia and the Nothern Territory have been handed a fresh heatwave warning from BoM, with the organisation forecasting that the north of Australia to be “one of the hottest places in the world” this week.
So if you’re looking to text them back (and they have a pool) this is your time to shine.
The BoM has reported that Queensland’s heatwave will peak on Wednesday and Thursday this week, with temperatures spiking into the low to mid-40s, whereas our friends in the NT are expected to experience max temperatures in the mid-30s to around 40 in the southern parts of Daly.
Western Australia‘s Northern Interior and Southern Interior Districts will also face temperatures in the mid-30s to low-40s towards the end of the week.
“Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell,” the BoM shared in its heatwave warning.
“Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
“Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.”

Alongside the heatwave warning, a fire danger warning was also issued for Channel Country.
Per news.com.au, Weatherzone’s Ben Domensino said that Australia’s northern half could be “one of the hottest places in the world”.
“A mass of hot air will spread across Australia this week, causing temperatures to climb in parts of every state and territory,” he said.
“As usual, the highest temperatures will occur over the interior and in northern parts of Australia, although even the southern states and some coastal areas will feel the pre-summer warmth.
“Maximum temperatures should get above 40 degrees in NSW, Queensland, South Australia, the Northern Territory and WA this week and possibly in northwest Victoria on Wednesday.
“If the Mildura area does manage to reach 40 degrees midweek, this would be Victoria’s earliest 40 degrees day since 2009.”
With the recent findings from the State of the Climate 2024 report, I am not surprised.
As per the report findings, Australia has seen “an increase in extreme heat events, longer fire seasons, more intense heavy rainfall, and sea level rise” as oceans continue to warm, especially in Australia’s south.
Love the idea of a sexy hot summer, but this is NOT a vibe.
