Bolton Wanderers, Portsmouth & Derby County League One play-offs prediction made

Bolton Wanderers returned to winning ways in dramatic fashion over the weekend with a comeback 3-2 victory over Accrington Stanley.

Shaun Whalley's effort put the hosts ahead early in the first half. Kyle Dempsey had a pair of efforts, one from a free kick, saved by Toby Savin, while Dion Charles saw a goalbound rebound blocked by Mitch Clark.

After the break, Wanderers went two behind when George Johnston headed past James Trafford inadvertantly to double Stanley's lead, before Ricardo Santos headed off the line from Whalley. Wanderers got back into the game thanks to Harvey Rodgers putting through his own net.

But Dapo Afolayan completed the comeback with a marvellous solo effort to put the Whites in the lead. It proved to be the winner as Wanderers secured their first League One win and indeed goals in the division since the start of October to move back into the division's play-off places with the 3-2 comeback victory.

Throughout the campaign, football statistics website FiveThirtyEight is forecasting how the League One table might finish after the results of every matchday, with the campaign reaching the climax of the regular season at the start of May before the play-offs.

Two of the biggest clubs with the biggest budgets in the division, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town, are tipped to be in the top two. The Owls are predicted to win the title on goal difference.

In the play-off places, Wanderers are tipped to sneak in on goal difference ahead of Barnsley following the win over Stanley. Plymouth Argyle, Derby County and Portsmouth are the three other sides predicted to finish in the top six.

At the other end of the table, Cambridge United, Burton Albion, Forest Green Rovers and Morecambe are predicted to be relegated and playing League Two football next season.
