Bolton Wanderers were dumped out of the FA Cup at the first round stage following a 2-1 loss at home to Barnsley.
The match was fewer than six minutes old when Bolton skipper Ricardo Santos inadvertantly put through his own goal from Nicky Cadden's dangerous cross to give the Tykes an early lead. Dion Charles appeared to have equalised not long after, but his header was chalked off for offside.
Barnsley doubled their advantage before half-time as Adam Phillips fired home a smart strike from the edge of the box. It gave James Trafford little chance.

After the break, Charles again had the ball in the back of the net but it was once more ruled out for offside. But Jon Dadi Bodvarsson halved the deficit with 10 minutes to go with a powerful header which Barnsley's rearguard could not keep out on the line.
Despite continuing to press for an equaliser, it did not come for Bolton and the Whites exited the competition. Here's how we rated the Whites players in the loss.
James Trafford - 5
Left with little chance for either goal conceded in first half, one from close range and another well placed into the top corner.
Conor Bradley - 5
Deployed at right-back. Liverpool loanee could have perhaps closed down Nicky Cadden better for opening goal.
Gethin Jones - 6
Defensive question marks along with rest of back four, but great cross for Bodvarsson to halve deficit as full-time approached.
Ricardo Santos - 5
Unfortunate to bundle ball home past Trafford to give visitors the advantage early on. Looked to fgive far too much space to Phillips to put Barnsley two goals up.
Jack Iredale - 5.5
Part of a defence which struggled throughout first half. Crosses decent at times in the final third on the left flank.
Aaron Morley - 7
One of few bright sparks in first half, looked lively and good on the ball. Continued to look decent after the break.
George Thomason - 6
Combative and lively in the middle of the park. Was booked in the second half before being withdrawn from the action.
Kieran Lee - 5.5
The odd nice touch to help Bolton's attacks flow when Wanderers did click into gear in the final third, but not a great deal of impact made.
Kieran Sadlier - 7
Handed a rare start and given forward berth on the right flank. Looked bright at times with some dangerous crosses. One of Bolton's better performers on the day.
Dion Charles - 5
Saw goal ruled out for offside in first half and header go over. Second goal ruled out for offside too early in second half, before making way. Usual hard work but for little eventual reward.
Dapo Afolayan - 5.5
Lined up on the left flank of the attack. Looked alright in the build-up at times but lack of end product in the final third.
Substitutes:
Kyle Dempsey - 6
Tried to get things moving in the middle of the park.
Amadou Bakayoko - 6.5
Pace caused some problems from the bench against a tiring Barnsley rearguard.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson - 7.5
Caused problems from the bench, good hold-up play and powerful header halved deficit. Bolton looked a better team and more threatening with his introduction.
Owen Beck - 6.5
Liverpool loanee went to left wing-back after coming on. Some promising moments from the youngster.
Elias Kachunga - 5
Played in the number 10 role after coming on.
