Bolton Wanderers' most common League One position this season and short time in top six revealed

Work is taking place behind the scenes at Bolton Wanderers ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Wanderers finished last season ninth in League One and are aiming to build on that positive result as a newly promoted team in the new campaign. The club is aiming to mount a promotion charge and target the top six at least.

The Whites are due to return for pre-season training on June 17, before jetting out to Portugal for a training camp a few days later on June 19. Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has said he hopes to have the squad fundamentally in place by the start of pre-season in terms of getting their transfer window business done early.

The Whites are aiming to build upon their season finish in the top 10 and challenge further up the table in the 2022/23 campaign. Wanderers occupied a range of positions in the season which has just ended.

Football analysis website Experimental 361 has now calculated the number of days each side in League One spent in each position they occupied in the table across the course of the regular campaign. Bolton's position ranged from third to 18th during the season.

And the analysis has shown Wanderers spent a total of only seven days of the season in the League One top six. That followed the emphatic 5-2 away win over Ipswich Town which lifted the Whites to third in the table.

The most common position Wanderers found themselves in during the campaign was 11th, spending 64 days there. The second best was the slightly higher place of 10th, where they resided for 43 days.

The club's eventual finishing position of ninth was one of the positions they spent the least time in, having only been there for nine days. This timescale is the same for 12th.

Wanderers were seventh and just outside the play-off by one position for 25 days across the season. The club also spent 13 days sitting in eighth.

In terms of the bottom half of the table, Wanderers found themselves sitting 15th for nearly a month across the season at 29 days. The next lowest after that was 20 days in 13th.

Stays of 16 and 15 days were spent 16th and 17th respectively, with 13 days spent sitting 14th. The lowest position Wanderers occupied across the season was 18th, but they spent only four days there.

The fixtures for the upcoming campaign will be released on Thursday, June 23. Wanderers will know all their League One opponents for the new campaign when the League Two play-off final takes place on Saturday, May 28, at Wembley.
