Bolton Wanderers goalscoring trait which puts them ahead of even Manchester City and Man United

Bolton Wanderers grabbed three points with a late goal over the weekend as they headed into the international break on the back of three points.

Amadou Bakayoko struck in the 90th minute for Wanderers to pick up a vital three points on the road against Crewe Alexandra.

The result leaves Wanderers 11th in League One and nine points from the top six with seven games of their season left to go.

Scoring late goals has been a common theme for Wanderers this season, with Bakayoko's the latest in a long line.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has bagged late strikes of late against Morecambe and Gillingham, the former of which ensured Wanderers picked up a point.

Bakayoko has grabbed other late goals too, including a winner against Oxford United and a dramatic leveller on the road versus Morecambe in early February.

Will Aimson bagged a winner at home against Charlton Athletic, while Dion Charles scored the crucial goal on the road versus Shrewsbury Town, as well as what proved to be a consolation in the loss to Burton Albion.

And it has become a hallmark of Ian Evatt's time as boss, as statistics have illustrated.

Evatt has been in charge of Wanderers since the summer of 2020 and is approaching two seasons at the helm of the University of Bolton Stadium club, overseeing promotion out of League Two last season.

Wanderers have slim hopes of reaching the play-offs this season and potentially be in the Championship next season via that route.

And since the beginning of the 2020/21 season, Wanderers have scored 39 times in the last 15 minutes of matches - the best in the top four tiers of English football.

That puts them one clear of play-off hopefuls Oxford United, with the next two sides in the list Sunderland and Exeter City.

The exploits puts Wanderers well clear of the big sides in the Premier League in this aspect too, with Liverpool scoring 33, Manchester United bagging 31 and top flight champions Manchester City scoring 27 goals in this period of games, the same as European champions Chelsea.
