Bolton Wanderers fans give verdict on League One play-off hopes after Plymouth Argyle loss

Bolton Wanderers suffered their first home defeat since mid-January in League One with a slender 1-0 loss against Plymouth Argyle.

Wanderers went behind just before half-time after Macaulay Gillesphey headed home from Jordan Houghton's corner.

The hosts switched to a back four early in the second half and Wanderers looked much better for it.

Dion Charles saw a header saved by Michael Cooper, while substitute Elias Kachunga was unable to convert a golden chance to equalise as Wanderers were unable to get back into the clash.

Wanderers are now 10 points from the play-offs and their chances of making the top six are now even more unlikely after the loss, with eight games left to go.

And taking to Twitter after the defeat, many Wanderers fans believe the play-offs this season may now be a step too far, but have confidence and optimism for the 2022/23 campaign after what they have seen.

Will Jones wrote: "Gutted the Whites couldn’t do the business today. Playoff race all but over, we go again next season, Up the Whites."

Russell Woods wrote: "Another bad day at the office. Didn’t take our chances and let Plymouth frustrate us. How much do we miss Gethin Jones! Hopefully some good performances between now and the end of the season, then we go again."

@aaron_bwfc posted: "If you'd offered me 10th/11th at start of the season I'd have taken it. We have built 3 different teams pretty much in 2 seasons, I trust we will build on the quality we already have in the summer and will compete at the top next season."

Phil Jordan wrote: "Season over but we’ve come a long way let’s not be short sighted. Bigger picture is what we’ve built ready for a big charge next year. Trust the process."

@SheehanSzn posted: "Disappointing today, Plymouth seemed like time wasting from minute 1. We were poor today and didn’t deserve anything, if we want playoffs we need to win our final 8 which puts us on 79 which may not even be enough this season. Is our season over? Thoughts whites?"

@BWFCJR posted: "Genuinely thought we'd come out all guns blazing today. Majority of the team treated it like a training session in the first half. Really frustrating to watch! Play off hopes gone now."

Daniel Beckett wrote: "Any chance of play offs is gone but it’s important we finish the season well to have momentum going into next season. Up the whites!"

Martin Barlow wrote: "It’s the hope that kills you! That’s it for me, no chance of making the play offs. Still love #bwfc though!"
