Bolton Wanderers boost ahead of Sheffield Wednesday & Aston Villa tests with duo set to return

Ian Evatt is looking forward to having striker Dion Charles back available for this weekend's clash against Sheffield Wednesday and George Thomason returning to selection for the Carabao Cup second round game versus Aston Villa as he looks forward to some difficult team choice decisions.

Charles has not featured for Wanderers since the opening day draw to Ipswich Town owing to a thigh strain. Thomason meanwhile is currently suspended following a straight red card against Salford City.

But striker Charles is poised to be back available again for this Saturday's big League One game at home to the Owls. Midfielder Thomason serves the final game of his ban versus the Hillsborough outfit and will then be back available for the big game next Tuesday against Steven Gerrard's side.

Evatt believes the squad he has at his disposal is important to manage the club's workload. Lloyd Isgrove and Josh Sheehan are nearing a first team return too after playing for the club's second string, while defender Eoin Toal is training and it appears the chance of a debut is coming closer.

Speaking after last night's 1-0 win over Morcambe, Evatt said: “It’s important because we have so many games that we have to manage the workload. We’ve got players returning.

"Lloyd (Isgrove) and Josh Sheehan played in the B team today and came through fine, it’s great to see them back. Young George (Thomason) will be back against Aston Villa after suspension as well, and then Dion (Charles) is back for Saturday.

"Eoin Toal is back training tomorrow, so all of a sudden again it’s getting more difficult, but it’s the nature of the beast. I’m delighted with what we’ve got available.

"Everyone seems to think that we spend vast amounts of money but that’s not true and not the case. I think we’ve been strategic, we’ve been smart, and we’re happy with where we’re at.”

One of the five changes Evatt made was Will Aimson coming into the heart of defence in place of suspended skipper Ricardo Santos, who is now back available again. Kieran Sadlier also came on in the closing stages of the encounter against the Shrimps.

The Wanderers boss believes the defender is an important member of the squad and revealed the difficult decision he faced with Sadlier. The Bolton boss was keen to get the attacker on but found it hard to get him on the pitch earlier owing to the nature of the game.

He said: “I think Will’s a really good player and I think he’s an important part of the squad. We’re blessed that we’ve got some really good options all over the pitch.

"It’s one of those games where it’s really tight at the moment and Kieran Sadlier, I’m wanting him to get on to create something for us and attack and it’s just so tough when it’s so tight to make those decisions because Kieran’s more of an attacker.

"He’s a great player and a big player for us as well so I just want them all to stick with it. It’s early days, we’re only five games in but lots of positives and if they all stick together, it’s going to be a good season but there’s a long way to go.”
