The Primark store in Bolton is to relocate it has been announced. The high-street fashion giant's store is currently housed within Crompton Place mall.
However, they have today revealed they will be moving into the Market Place Shopping Centre just around the corner. They will take over the old ground floor and part of the lower ground floor of the former Debenhams store in the centre to create a new anchor store in a multi-million-pound deal.
The new shop is expected to open in late 2024 or early 2025 dependent on construction work. Market Place bosses have described it as a 'massive vote of confidence' in the centre.
Whilst Bolton Council say it "a significant step forward for Bolton on a number of levels." The town hall have been pushing ahead with plans to demolish Crompton Place and say 'this deal is a huge step in the right direction to deliver this sooner."
Primark, who last year announced a £140m investment in the UK, will invest in the new store alongside Moorgarth Retail, the centre's owners.
Director of Place at Bolton Council Jon Dyson said: “We are delighted that Primark has committed to a continued presence in the town centre, and at such a prime location.
"As shopping habits change, we are working to consolidate the retail offer around Market Place and create a town centre that also provides a mix of residential, hospitality and leisure.
"We continue to explore options for the future of Crompton Place and this is a significant step towards the regeneration of this part of town.”
Alison Stewart, Asset Manager at Moorgarth said: “This is a massive vote of confidence in our shopping centre, it consolidates even further the retail and leisure offer in the town, will strengthen the offer and wider visitor attraction to Bolton and Market Place, and delivers a new anchor store with massive multi-million-pound investment, into Bolton Town Centre.”
Primark UK retail director Kari Rodgers said: “We are thrilled to be moving forward with plans to relocate our Primark Bolton store to the Market Place Centre.
"We know our customers will be excited to shop the Primark products they know and love in the new store, and we hope to give more Bolton shoppers more reasons to visit their town centre.”
