Bold Reece James and Raheem Sterling Chelsea claim ahead of FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022

Reece James and Raheem Sterling were both labelled 'sensational' for their performances and link-up during Chelsea's second Premier League victory at home to Leicester City.

It looked like for the opening 25 minutes of the contest that it would be business as usual for Thomas Tuchel's side, who dominated the early proceedings. A reaction that was wanted and promised after the Leeds defeat last weekend. However, the Elland Road hangover affected Conor Gallagher, and his actions could have jeopardised his side's chances of picking up points from this contest.

Two needless yellow cards handed Brendan Rodgers' side the initiative to go on and collect a shock result at Stamford Bridge. Something that would have been received well by a Foxes fanbase who have been starved of any transfer business this summer. If it weren't for the performance of the two aforementioned England internationals, they would have done so, but James' and Sterling's performances weren't only reflected in Tuchel's post-match comments and football.london player ratings, but also Jermaine Jenas' analysis on BBC Match of the Day.

"Reece James and Raheem Sterling today I thought were sensational," the former Tottenham defender analysed. "I think Reece James has been Chelsea's best player since the start of the season, and he started this game in the same vein, really.

"Just quality and playing with confidence with many long balls executed into Raheem Sterling. They are developing a really nice understanding and partnership as well.

"That strike that hit the post from James, he doesn't even think twice. He just hits it. This with Raheem I love- he makes one run, and no one recognises it.

"He then makes another and crates the space. This is the work that goes unnoticed by strikers and forwards, and he puts in that work to earn the space for his goal. It's how he scores a lot of his goals.

"For the second goal, star man Reece James is always on the move. He's always thinking how can I get in behind, and how can I hurt you? And then how many times do you see Raheem Sterling there [at the back post] doing what he does best with his movement, timing of the movement when to release himself, the delivery of the balls from Reece James.

"Those two, I really thought, were electric today."

Jenas' comments have certainly provided a headache for Gareth Southgate, who needs to work out who starts at right-back, the Chelsea man or Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold. Further forward, does the £47.5m man start over the likes of Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and West Ham's Jarrod Bowen? All will be revealed in late November when England kick-off their FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar against Iran.
