Bold lips for brides: The dos & don’ts of flaunting red lipstick on your wedding day

The wedding season is on and it's time for brides to experiment with everything, from their clothes to makeup. While many brides this season are opting for pastel hued lehengas and saris, they are willing to go bold with their makeup. And, if you are a bride-in-the-making, looking to make a statement on your wedding day, a red lipstick can make you look like a queen. Chandni Goyal, Training Manager, Anastasia Beverly Hills India shares insights on some important do's and don't about applying the red lipstick on your big day.

Dos:

1. Choose your red lipstick shade as per your skin tone – if you are someone with warm/olive undertone, choose reds that have a warm or orangey undertone, while people with cool undertones should choose reds that have a blue or a pink undertone.

2. When working with a bold red lip color, best is to line your lips neatly to create a crisp guideline so you avoid imbalanced lip application.

3. Apply lip balm or a lip primer before red lip color application – A lip primer would condition your lips and give a smooth application to your bold red lip color which will also last longer.

4. Apply bold lip color with a lip brush for a clean and crisp application, rather than directly from the bullet or the lipstick applicator.

5. Apply a concealer or a foundation around the lip for a crisp and clean application.

Don’ts

1. Bold lip colors especially reds look best when applied matte. Avoid glossy and shiny lipsticks as they are not long lasting and smudge easily.

2. Don’t overdo your face when applying a bold lip color – Avoid doing bold eye makeup or eyeliner when the focus is on the lips with bold lip color as it can get distracting. If bold lips are your focus, then avoid overdoing other features on your face.

3. Don’t apply a bold lip color without exfoliating your lips, chapped lips do not look good with a bold lip color.

4. While it’s good to apply a thin layer of foundation on your lips as base to get a good color pay off, avoid going too light with your foundation shade as it can change the color of your bold red lip color, and make it look more pink than red.

5. Avoid extra over lining your lips as it can make your lips look fake. Best is to bring balance to your lips and enhance the natural shape than overdrawing or over lining your lips.
