Body recovered from Edinburgh's Water of Leith by emergency services

Police Scotland have confirmed that officers have removed a body from the Water of Leith close to Saughton Park.

Officers say that the incident took place at around 2.40pm on Friday, December 30 after they received a report from a member of the public.

Further details relating to the circumstances which led to the recovery of the body are not available at this time. Police say enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers were called to the Water of Leith at around 2.40pm on Friday, December 30 following reports of a body in the water.

“The body was recovered and enquiries are ongoing.”

Edinburgh and the Lothians have experienced heavy rainfall which has led to rising water levels along the Water of Leith throughout the capital.

A yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office who said that fast-flowing or deep floodwater is also expected which could cause danger to life.
