Body pulled from water in Scots canal as cops race to scene

A body was pulled from a canal in West Lothian sparking a sudden death probe by police this morning.

The grim discovery was made in the water near Strawberry Bank in Linlithgow at around 9.30am on Tuesday, February 21.

Police were called to the scene following the discovery of the body of a 69-year-old man within the water.

Officers cordoned off sections of Strawberry Bank and the nearby Manse Road while enquiries were ongoing.

It has now been confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. The man's next of kin have been informed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.30am on Tuesday, February 21, police were called to the Strawberry Bank area of Linlithgow following the discovery of a body of a 69-year-old man within the water.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious. Next of kin have been informed and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
