Body of woman 'may have lain in flat for weeks' as police probe death

A woman’s body may have lay in a Dundee multi flat for weeks before she was discovered.

The 45-year-old’s neighbours claimed the victim had grown isolated during the pandemic lockdown.

Police made the grim discovery in the sixth floor flat, in Dudhope Court, on Tuesday afternoon.

They broke into the property after locals raised the alarm when they became concerned.

Some locals feared the body may have been in the flat for weeks before she was found.

Police Scotland told Dundee Live there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

Speaking to the local Courier newspaper, one local resident said: “Police, ambulance paramedics and joiners appeared in the flats on Tuesday and forced open the door to her flat.

“I didn’t know the woman but I was told she lived alone with her cat.

“It’s really sad that someone can lie undiscovered for so many weeks.”

Another local added: “This is dreadfully sad. I saw the police and paramedics arrive but by then I suspected something like this had happened.

“I only saw the woman a couple of times but she seemed a pretty quiet person.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.55pm on Tuesday, March 29, officers were called to a flat in Dudhope Court where a 45-year-old woman was pronounced dead.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report was forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
