Body of woman found in Tottenham alleyway with police treating death as ‘unexpected’

Police are working to discover the identity of a woman found dead in north London alleyway.

The woman was found “unresponsive” on Grange Road in the shadow of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 1pm on Sunday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene of a long alleyway stretching behind homes and warehouses.

Neighbours said they heard screams of a woman in the early hours of the morning.

One told the Standard: “It is so sad. I think someone was killed. We heard screaming in the early morning it sounded like a man and woman arguing very loudly. I thought it was a husband and wife arguing so I tried to ignore them.

“I pressed stop on my film and heard them have another conflict.

“My mother heard the same thing.”

Another neighbour saw the woman’s body being pulled out on a stretcher at about 10pm on Sunday.

A Met spokeswoman said the death is being treated as “unexpected” and the force had launched an investigation.

She added: “Police were called to Grange Road, N17 following reports of an unresponsive woman at the location.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish her identity and next of kin.

“The death is currently being treated at unexpected and is under investigation.

“No arrests, enquiries continue.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.10pm yesterday (2 April) to reports of an incident near Grange Road, Tottenham.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
