Queensland police say they have found the body of missing Gold Coast woman Wendy Sleeman in the back of a car on Brisbane's north side.
The 61-year-old had been missing since she contacted police on Tuesday.
Her 30-year-old son, Slade Murdok, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and charged with multiple offences including kidnapping.
Police say the forensic examination of electronic data led them to a rented garage at Windsor on Thondley Street, on Brisbane's north side, where they found a blue Honda Jazz with the body inside.
Police believe the car, which they had been searching for, had been at the Windsor location since late Tuesday evening.
Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said although it was yet to be formally identified, they believed it was Ms Sleeman's body.
"This is a devastating outcome for her loved ones and our thoughts remain with them," Superintendent Smith said.
Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said the development was "absolutely tragic".
Police said the owner of the garage was "shocked" and an "innocent party".
"It is a tragic scene and tragic circumstance," the south eastern regional crime coordinator said.
Superintendent Smith said police believed there was "no formal relationship" between Mr Murdok and the garage owner.
"Investigators have told me that [the owner of the garage] is quite shocked. It is not something that you expect."
“Just because we have located the car, we are still very keen to hear from people who have seen it because we want to track [its] movements right across the south-east,” Superintendent Smith added.
“That little piece [of information] is what we want."
It is a Honda blue Jazz with the number plate 952AT4.
Police said verified sightings on Tuesday January 24 included Ironbark Road, Elanora at about 3pm, the intersection of Paradise Point Road and Kingston Road, Logan Central at 5.50pm and Jean Street, Slacks Creek, at 5:52pm.
Superintendent Smith said specialist officers, forensic officers, and pathologists were on the scene.
“It is too early to say what the injuries are or the extent of injuries,” he said.
