The body of an international tourist has been found at a popular swimming hole, more than 24 hours after he went missing.
The 20-year-old Japanese national had jumped into the water from a ledge at Crystal Cascades near Cairns in far north Queensland, and did not resurface.
Acting Inspector Jamie Horn said the man had been at the waterfall with friends on Sunday, before disappearing into the water.
"They had been swimming with a little bit of rock diving," he said.
"The suggestion is he's gotten himself into a bit of trouble and become submerged and not been able to come back up."
Police were called to the swimming hole about 3.30pm on Sunday and launched a search for the missing man.
It resumed on Monday and his body was found by police divers about 6pm.
"Thankfully they were able to recover him very quickly and about the exact location where he disappeared," Insp Horn said.
Crystal Cascades has been closed since the incident and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
The man's body was recovered almost a year after a 59-year-old father and his 20-year-old son from Victoria drowned at the swimming hole.
Their family called for more warnings and signage at the location after the April 2023 tragedy.
An 18-year-old local man drowned at Crystal Cascades in early 2014, after losing his footing at the top of a waterfall and falling into deep water.
