The body of a man from Ripley who had been reported missing was found in a reservoir, an inquest has been told. The opening of an inquest touching on the death of Izaak Benjamin Pollard was also told the young man had been identified by his stepmother.
Derbyshire Live reports Mr Pollard was found in Butterley Reservoir on May 3. He had been reported missing for several days before the discovery of the body.
A post-mortem examination found Mr Pollard died as a result of a lack of oxygen being delivered to the tissues in his blood, which was due to drowning in the reservoir and "alcohol toxicity". Mr Pollard had been reported to Derbyshire Police as a missing person on Friday, April 29, having not been seen since leaving his home. Several appeals were made over the Bank Holiday weekend in an attempt to try to find him.

His family, including his stepmother, searched for him in Ripley, Belper, Cromford and Matlock but, sadly, they couldn't find him. The inquest, held at Chesterfield Coroners' Court, was told that Mr Pollard, who was born in Matlock on July 16, 2001, was a fire and security engineer and was single. He lived on Butterley Lane in Ripley.
Assistant Coroner Susan Evans formally opened and adjourned the inquest on Wednesday, August 24, adding that the court was still awaiting a police report into the incident. Miss Evans set a review date of November 23, 2022, and expressed her condolences to Mr Pollard's family.
