Body of man recovered from canal in Dublin as gardai launch investigation

Gardai are investigating after a man's body was pulled from a Dublin canal earlier today.

A man's body was taken from the water of the Royal Canal at Ballybough Bridge this afternoon at approximately 12.30pm. His body was taken the City Morgue in Whitehall where a post mortem take place.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a male body which was taken from the water of the Royal Canal at Ballybough Bridge this afternoon Sunday 21st August, 2022 at approximately 12.30p.m.

"The body has been removed from the scene and taken the City Morgue in Whitehall where a post mortem will be carried out in due course. An examination of the scene has taken place.

"Gardai in Mountjoy are appealing to any persons who may have seen anything unusual in the area or can assist them to contact Mountjoy Garda station on 01 666 8600, the Garda Confidential line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda station. Investigations are ongoing.
