Body of 'kind-hearted' Irish man to be flown home to Ireland after horror crash in US

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with the funeral expenses of a “kind-hearted” Irish man who tragically lost his life in Dallas, Texas last Monday following a car accident.

David Bermingham, originally from the Navan Road in Dublin, was based in Dallas with his wife Sarah since moving there in 2017 where the pair helped raise and take care of their dog, Harvey.

Born in 1995, David graduated from St Declan’s College in 2012 and worked as a Retail Betting Assistant for Paddy Power.

An avid sportsman, Bermingham was a member of the Glasnevin Lawn Tennis Club and a competitive tennis player for many years. In 2010, he received his Black Belt in Taekwondo.

He also had a “passion” for fitness and strength training, becoming an avid gym goer for years. He was also known for having a “great love for Mexican culture, and the Dallas Cowboys NFL team.

Survived by his parents, Cathy and Ger Bermingham and his wife, David has been described in his obituary as someone with a “generous heart, zest for life, and love for his Irish roots.”

A private funeral service was held on Saturday, January 28, but David will be brought back to Ireland.

To help with the costs of repatriating David's body, a GoFundMe has been set up that has currently raised $14,172 of the $10,000 goal.

A heartwarming statement by the GoFundMe’s creator on the site reads: “David was loved by so many and lived life light-heartedly with an easy smile and a loving spirit.

“No words can express how much he will be missed by all that know and love him. Especially his parents, Cathy and Gerard, as David was their only son.

“During this time, we want to help alleviate the stress of any financial burden for David's family. We truly appreciate any support during this heavy time.”
