The family of Naveen Gyanagoudar, the medical student who was killed in war-hit Ukraine, has decided to donate his body to S. S. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Davanagere after performing the final rites.
Naveen’s father Shekharappa Gyanagoudar made the announcement after it was conveyed to the family that the embalmed mortal remains of Naveen would reach Bengaluru on March 21.
“We are a bit relieved now. We were not sure whether we will be able to see his face one last time. But, thanks to the efforts by the Union and State governments, we can see him one last time. We will perform pooja on his body in our home and then donate it to the medical college,” he told mediapersons.
According to authorities from the Indian embassy, the mortal remains of Naveen will reach Bengaluru early on March 21. “The body is expected to reach Chalageri by 11 a.m., and we will hand over the body to the medical college after the last rites,” Naveen’s brother Harsha said.
Mortal remains transported to Warsaw
According to the Commissioner of Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) and State Nodal Officer (Ukraine crisis) Manoj Rajan, the funeral agent appointed by the MEA has taken possession of the mortal remains of Naveen after completing the necessary paperwork. The remains have been has transported to Warsaw (Poland). The Indian embassy in Poland and the funeral agent have completed all the documentation required for transportation of the mortal remains to India.
The Joint Secretary, Eurasia, MEA has reported that the mortal remains of Naveen are expected to reach Kempegowda International Airport on March 21 at 3 a.m. on Emirates flight number EK0568.
